Columbus Criminal Defense Attorneys Jim Owen And Todd Long Win Not Guilty Verdict In Felonious Assault Trial

On Friday morning, September 2, 2011, after less than 30 minutes of deliberation, a Franklin County Common Please Jury returned a unanimous verdict of Not Guilty in the felonious assault case in State of Ohio v. Penick.  Columbus Criminal Defense Lawyers Jim Owen and Todd Long represented Penick in the 4-day long jury trial.

If convicted, Penick faced a sentence of up to 8 years in prison for assaulting a neighbor and inflicting serious bodily injury with a deadly weapon.  Owen and Long maintained that Penick acted in self defense.  After trial, Mr. Long spoke to several jurors who said they were convinced of Penick’s innocence from day one.  Mr. Penick, who testified on his own behalf, cried with joy upon return of the Not Guilty verdict.
