Turner, who was found not guilty on all homicide counts, was represented by Columbus criminal defense attorney Todd Long.  Our client was was released the same day the jury found our client NOT GUILTY of all charges.

Based on the powerful evidence of innocence presented in court by Owen, the jury of 8 ultimately determined Howard to be “factually innocent” of the robbery and security guard murder for which he was convicted and sentenced to death in 1977.

Article published by statehouse reporter Alan Johnson in The Columbus Dispatch on June 30, 2006, reporting on the largest wrongful incarceration award ever secured in Ohio history, which was obtained for Timothy Howard by Columbus criminal defense lawyer James D. Owen. The award followed a civil murder trial conducted 3 months earlier. In that case, the jury found Howard, who was represented by Owen, to be actually innocent of the 1976 robbery and murder for which he was previously convicted sentenced to death.

Article published by statehouse reporter Alan Johnson in The Columbus Dispatch on July 11, 2006, reporting on the appearance by Columbus criminal defense lawyer James D. Owen before the Ohio Controlling Board which granted final approval of Timothy Howard’s $2.5 million wrongful incarceration award, the largest such award ever made in Ohio history.

Prosecutor agrees conviction was wrong

Article published by statehouse reporter Alan Johnson in The Columbus Dispatch on April 19, 2007, chronicling the work of Columbus criminal defense lawyer James D. Owen to obtain an agreement by the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney that Gary James was wrongfully convicted for a 1976 east-side Columbus bank robbery and security guard murder. After years of contentious litigation spearheaded by Owen, the Franklin County Prosecutor finally conceded James’ innocence.
